BarcampAuckland is a free event that is going to be held to encourage and refresh the web community in New Zealand. It will do this by encouraging the discussion (by every attendee) about design and development ideas, concepts or theories as well as practical design and development skills and examples.
New Zealand web development seems to have become stagnant and commercial and we want to bring back the passion to design by holding such an un-conference in New Zealand. We want NZ designers and developers to find working on the web fun again and to want to learn and expand their understanding of the accessible, semantic, standards based and social web.
Everyone is an expert at something. BarCamp allows creatives, technologists, scientists, programmers, and bloggers the chance to gather together and share new ideas. It's about passion, creating community, and exploring new social media. The difference between a traditional conference, and an un-conference like BarCamp is that BarCamps allow people to interact with speakers throughout the presentations. At a traditional conference the best ideas originate in the hallways and corridors. BarCamp is all corridor - Erica O'Grady
Barcamp is free
There's a reason Barcamps are free events. Everyone is encouraged to participate. Whether your the Lead Designer or Developer at a large web agency, a freelancer, a high school student wanting to follow a career in web development or you just like making website in your spare time, we want you to get involved. Everyone has an opinion and ideas and everyone's opinion and ideas matter, therefore we want to hear it all.
Please note that Barcamp Auckland will be limited to 175 attendees so be quick and register your place today.
Barcamp is about getting involved
First rule of Barcamp, be prepared to present. If this is your first Barcamp then we encourage you to come forward, and make a good first impression by stepping forward to present. Write your idea for your presentation on the ideas board and people will vote for the presentations they want most. Note: When you think about your presentation remember Barcamp is about sharing ideas and getting involved, make sure you don't give us a seminar because, like you, we have ideas to contribute too.
Spread the word
In order for BarCampAuckland to succeed we need good numbers that will mean there'll be enough contribution and participation, so please tell your friends, blog about it and invite your colleagues to this event (even if you can't make it yourself.)
All help is appreciated, if you blog about BarCampAuckland please email barcampauckland [at] ludwignz [dot] com.
